Could you be in need of a hearing aid?

Posted on June 30, 2017

People with hearing disabilities often ignore their condition and refuse to accept that they have a problem. Increasingly, every year people end up with permanent hearing impairment due to this carelessness. But, little do they realise that timely detection and treatment can help them with proper hearing. For help, they should visit an audiologist to find the right hearing aid in Toronto. This city in Ontario, Canada has many expert audiologists using latest technology and devices to treat their patients.

According to the Canada Census 2006, Ontario had 530,210 people who were deaf and hard of hearing. This accounted for 4.74% of the total population. The leading cause of hearing loss is aging; the cases of hearing impairment are likely torise significantly as the population ages. It is estimated that the number of people over the age of 65 years in Ontario would soon reach 4.1 million. This would account for 23.4% of the total population by 2036.Hearing loss among Canadian babies was studied by Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services in 2007. The Ministry observed that approximately 4 in 1,000 Canadian babies are born with hearing disability of some level.

12 signs that suggest you are suffering from hearing loss:

  1. You think people are mumbling when they are actually talking.
  2. If you often request people to repeat themselves.
  3. If your family members or friends complain that you are watching TV or listening to the radio at much higher volumes than is required.
  4. If you are unable to understand people at a single go at gatherings and other public areas. It happens because of the background noises worsening hearing abilities in such settings. Such a situation can lead to embarrassment. As a result, people with hearing loss prefer to stay at home and become less social. This, in the long run,can impacttheir psychological health.
  5. If you cannot engage in a group conversation. For example, working professionals may feel uncomfortable during their work meetings and students at school may feel reluctant to participate in group discussions.
  6. If you are turning more impatient, withdrawn, irritated or frustrated than ever before.
  7. If you have a hard time concentrating onsomeone speakingand that have to work hard to cope with hearing disadvantages.
  8. You avoidbeingthe first person to start a conversation.
  9. You can’t hear people speaking from another room.
  10. You can’thear the telephone ring.
  11. If you can’t listen to someone speaking softly.
  12. You have difficulty understanding people without looking at them.

If you experience any or some of these symptoms from the above list, consider visiting the nearest audiologist.
