Groundbreaking Technology At Pindrop Eliminates Directionality Taking Speech Understanding to the Next Level
Newest BrainHearing™ Technology now at Pindrop delivers 30% better speech understanding* and 20% less listening effort* so users remember 20% more**
Pindrop Hearing Centres is now offering Oticon Opn which introduces two communication systems (2.4GHz and NFMI) in one hearing aid, an innovative ‘first’ in hearing aids that solves the massive battery power needs of 2.4GHz technology for binaural processing.
Oticon Opn™ is a paradigm shift in hearing aids that combines breakthrough technologies proven to enable people with hearing loss to hear better and remember more with less listening effort. Powered by the ultra-fast and precise Velox™ platform, the newest BrainHearing solution employs an “open sound” approach, handling multiple speech and noise sources, even in complex listening situations.
Oticon Opn is the first hearing aid to feature two dedicated communication systems. TwinLink™ technology consists of one dedicated system for optimized binaural processing and one system for direct streamer-free connectivity. For Pindrop Hearing Centre clients, the new communication technology ensures hassle-free communication without compromising binaural capabilities or battery consumption.
“Oticon Opn™ is the first hearing aid proven to make it easier on the brain,” said Doctor of Audiology, David Patterson, Au.D., R.Aud, Aud(c) and Director of Audiology for Pindrop Hearing Centres across Canada. “Testing consistently shows that Oticon Opn increases speech understanding, the parameter most important to users, by 30% over other Oticon hearing solutions. In testing using pupilometry, a recognized measure of how loaded the brain is, Oticon Opn users experienced 20% less listening effort when trying to understand speech. Additional studies show that because Oticon Opn users have freed up brain capacity, they are able to remember 20% more of what was said.”
The New Velox Platform: Ultra-Fast and Precise Sound Processing at Pindrop
Designed specifically for hearing aids, the Velox platform is a powerhouse of groundbreaking features. The tiny chip has the extreme speed needed to manage multiple sound sources, analyzing and processing sound data 50 times faster than before. Market-leading 64-band frequency resolution enables a more precise sound analysis and better sound quality to support the brain’s ability to make sense of sound.
The new OpenSound Navigator™ scans, analyses and reacts to sounds in the environment more than 100 times per second. Thanks to this superior processing power, Oticon Opn is able to continually analyze and balance sounds, removing noise, even between words. With this OpenSound experience, Oticon has made traditional directionality – designed to focus on the main sound in front and suppress background sounds – a thing of the past.
“Pindrop Hearing Centre clients can now follow the sounds they want to hear and shift attention when desired,” said Patterson. “Surrounding sounds are available but not intrusive so users can focus on the sounds they want to hear most, even in noisy situations.”
First TwinLink Technology: Binaural Processing & Direct Connectivity at Pindrop
Oticon Opn is the industry’s first hearing solution to offer TwinLink technology, two communication systems in one hearing solution, providing the benefit of streamer-free connectivity without compromising binaural communication. Power-efficient near-field magnetic communication (NFMI) in one dedicated system is optimized for binaural ear-to-ear communication.
Pindrop users will enjoy high quality sound for better listening in all environments with very low power consumption. A second dedicated system uses 2.4GHz Bluetooth direct streaming for wireless streamer-free communication to smartphones. Developed specifically for hearing aids, this variant of Bluetooth uses significantly less battery power when streaming. The free, downloadable Oticon ON app allows users to connect directly to smartphones and other external devices without the need for a streamer.
World’s First Internet Connected Hearing Aid at Pindrop
Oticon Opn is the world’s first hearing aid that connects to the internet via the If This Then That service (IFTTT.com). Pindrop users can connect to a wide range of IFTTT-enabled devices used in everyday life such as door bells, domestic lighting systems and a variety of home appliances. Oticon Opn enables Pindrop users to use their hearing aids with a growing number of IFTTT-compatible products and services as they become available.
“The new BrainHearing™ solution provides an unprecedented array of innovative technologies that open a world of sound for people at our clinics with hearing loss and makes directionality as we know it a thing of the past,” explained Patterson. “Oticon Opn makes it easier for people with hearing loss to communicate and stay socially active, with less listening effort and more ability to remember what is being said. And now, they can even connect the hearing aids to the internet,” Patterson added.
Oticon Opn hearing solutions are available in the popular discreet miniRITE™ and Pindrop Hearing Centres is offering this innovative and ground breaking technology at all locations across Canada.
