Meet Our Experts: David Patterson, Pindrop’s Director of Audiology
This month, the Meet our Experts spotlight, features Doctor of Audiology, David Patterson, MClSc AuD, R.Aud, Aud(C). David has been the Director of Audiology for Pindrop Hearing Centres for the past three years.
David received his Masters in Audiology from the University of Western Ontario and his Doctorate in Audiology from Salus University. Prior to joining Pindrop Hearing, he spent 14 years in an executive position with one of the world’s largest hearing aid manufacturers. As such, he has a unique perspective when it comes to serving those with hearing loss, including their families.
David has extensive experience in diagnostic testing, advanced amplification systems, and practice management. He is also one of the driving forces behind Pindrop’s mandate to provide the best hearing health care tailored to an individual’s needs. This includes all services related to prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation of hearing impairment.
The Proven Process
David has always believed that a proven process yields the best possible results and administers this approach with all of his patients. “We don’t just study issues related to hearing loss. Obtaining a clear picture of all health issues to take into consideration regarding each patient’s overall well-being is also critical,” he explains. When patients visit Pindrop Hearing Centres, David ensures that each Pindrop location takes a detailed hearing health history to help determine the best solution:
- Have you been exposed to high levels of noise (occupational or recreational)?
- Do you have a family history of hearing loss?
- Do you have a history of ear infections/drainage from the ear?
- Do you suffer from tinnitus (ringing, buzzing, chirping) in either ear?
- Have you ever worn hearing aids? If so, what types of problems do you have with them?
Testing and results are always offered in a relaxed stress free environment. That way, patients clearly understand their test results and are able to ask questions in an unhurried fashion.
“At Pindrop our goal is to guide our hearing loss patients to quality solutions which enhance hearing,” explains David. “It’s all about connection and helping our patient’s reconnect with those that are nearest to them. We understand there are many issues associated with hearing loss including isolation, depression and cognitive decline.”
“We also take lifestyle-related activities that may be impacted by hearing loss into consideration. This is very important to determining the best solution possible. We look at the entire picture and then offer our advice on next steps”, he adds.
David explains that after Pindrop experts guide patients through the proven process and define a plan, those with hearing loss enjoy a much higher quality of life via the highly specialized technology available that’s now available. “The technology has come a long way in terms of hearing aids. We now have the world’s first Internet-connected hearing aid with sound processing that reduces stress on the brain. It’s an exciting time in the industry. Being able to provide solutions that enhance the quality of people’s lives is very rewarding.”
David also explains that Pindrop has a community-based approach. Our hearing experts love what we do and our satisfaction is truly based on the happiness of our patients and their families in the cities we serve. “Our patient’s ongoing satisfaction is important to us – we service them long after a solution is prescribed. At Pindrop maximizing hearing health is our highest priority.”
Every six months Pindrop reaches out to schedule a cleaning and hearing aid check up to ensure a patient’s hearing aids are working at their optimum capacity. Pindrop also schedules a yearly hearing test to monitor a patient’s unique hearing requirements. All ongoing services are free of charge. “I think our committed approach ensures happy, well-cared for patients. That is really what sets us a part from many other offerings in the marketplace,” concludes David.
When not caring for his patients, David maintains a very active lifestyle with his wife and three children.
